I was to meet Clair, Jack’s wife, on the movie set. We met for coffee during her break. Clair introduced me to Astrid, who left us alone to talk. She got to the point.

“Bill, I’m leaving Jack.”

I said I was not surprised.

She said, “You’re his best friend. How can you say that?”

“Yes, I am. But I have no idea why anyone would want to be married to him.”

“Bill, you don’t understand. I am leaving him for another woman. You just met her.”

“Oh shit, Clair. I wish I could be there when you tell him.”

    She gathered courage to tell Bill, her husband’s best friend, but not to her husband.
    If Bill was wondering was Clair was married to Jack, that means Jack wasn’t a very nice person. But, why was he Jack’s best friend then? 🙂

    If Bill’s Jack’s best friend, I’m sure he’ll hear about it…over and over. Nothing like seeing the look though. Not the ending I was expecting. Good one.

  11. the girls must be having an affair behind his back for sometime now. in this case, can jack be referred to as henpecked or cuckold or both? inquiring mind wants to know. 🙂

    1. Not a looser. Never said that. I am intrigued by the number of comments that seem to think all men must be good marriage material or they are worthless. Some fine folks should not marry, as they sometimes learn late. For the record, Jack did meet his match later and their relationship had the best hoped for outcome. 🙂 Thanks for the comment.

      1. Oh no! I do NOT believe all men who remain single are losers. It seemed to me that Bill didn’t seem to have a high opinion of his friend, which was the basis of my question.

It was just a joke and play on words — Jack/Jackass — 😅😂 based on Bill’s assessment (“I have no idea why anyone would want to be married to him // I wish I could be there when you tell him.”) Read your reply to granonine. The comments about Jack are not negative judgments about “all men” or anything to be taken personally. People are just commenting on a character in your story and the inflection you put on it. When we write creatively…it’s like artwork…there’s no right or wrong way for our readers to intepret it. Everyone has their take on it and their own perspective and it’s all good!! Wondeful in fact! A blessing! 😊✌️👍

      2. Of course. Indeed, Jack was a difficult personality. Being his friend was not easy, but doable and Bill had ownership. He could have left. In truth, Jack told Bill that after five years of her life, Jack was letting it go and divorcing her, He had kept appearances up for the kids. His second marriage was a breath of fresh air. What I wrote was fiction. But the way many piled on Jack, I suspected, anti-male pre-judgement. Reality was indeed different. But that is why such fiction is fun. 🙂 thanks for your comments.
